The Burundi Gikungere, or “Giku,” Hills is a coffee growing region comprising over 150 local farmers. The region has quickly gained notoriety in the past few years for its delicious coffee. Due to the use of more organic materials for fostering the land, the Giku area is producing coffees with bright, crisp and rich flavor notes.

This coffee is brought to us by our partners Bonaventure and the Long Miles Coffee Project (LMCP) who build milling stations in Kenya, Burundi, and Uganda. We actually first started working with LMCP in 2014 and their coffee has remained incredibly delicious and well sourced for the past decade. This particular coffee is semi-washed or “honey” processed. In this processing method, the skin of the cherry is removed but the mucilage is left in-tact whilst drying. By keeping the mucilage on, the green coffee truly looks as if honey is drizzled and dried onto the beans. Once roasted, it translates to a sweet and balanced cup.

In the Giku Honey, we taste Ceylon cinnamon, juicy red plum, and the sweet, nutty essence of piloncillo. This is a sweet treat for any and all coffee drinkers!
